Neue Galerie New York will open 'Alexei Jawlensky,' the first full museum retrospective in the United States devoted to the work of the Russian-born Expressionist artist Alexei Jawlensky (1864-1941). Jawlensky moved to Munich in 1896, where he became an integral member of the artistic avant-garde that advanced important developments in Expressionism and abstraction. The exhibition will include approximately 75 paintings ranging in date from 1900 to 1937 and will explore the chronological and thematic development of Jawlensky's work. It is comprised of loans from public and private collections worldwide.
