Forty years ago, West African rhythms exploded onto the Opera House stage for the first time. Since then, DanceAfrica has evolved into America's largest festival of African and diasporic performance, hosting companies from all over the world every Memorial Day weekend. This year's celebration, under the leadership of artistic director Abdel R. Salaam, marks the 40th anniversary of this beloved tradition, focusing on the movement styles and musical traditions of Guinea, plus a visual art exhibition, the annual FilmAfrica series, a host of community events, and the one-and-only bazaar.
