Warm up at Panorama — a new music festival — or cool off at one of this weekend's new movies. We've picked our favorite NYC openings of the week to help you plan your culture going. CRAVE what excites you and RATE events once you've been.
Friday night is the One Africa Music Fest at Barclays Center. See Afrobeat stars including Wizkid, Diamond Platnumz, Davido, Iyanya, Banky W and Stonebwoy.
Panorama, a new music festival, is on Randall’s Island from Friday, July 22 through Sunday the 24th. There’s an amazing lineup — Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes, Sia, Kendrick Lamar, LCD Soundsystem, and more. The event isn’t just a concert: it’s also an interactive experience. We’re excited about “The Lab,” which will host installations by local artists that incorporate technology, artistry, and design. For example, Zachary Lieberman’s Reflection Study is an experiment with light that allows festivalgoers to paint with light on a special light table.
It’s the first weekend when The Hills is open on Governors Island. Visit it to take in the views of the skyline and the Statue of Liberty or zoom down the enormous slide. We visited on opening day, and urge you to hop on the ferry and check it out.
